The starter kit.

A printable set of shot-recipe cards and a prop checklist, so your next book photo starts with a plan instead of a pile of things on the table.

Sample description. Kerrie will confirm exactly what goes in the kit.

Prop checklist

  • Linen napkin
  • White card
  • A cup with a handle
  • Dried stems
  • Something with text

Shot recipe I

North window, late afternoon

  • Book 60 cm from the glass, cover angled to the light
  • White card opposite, to lift the shadows
  • One prop, never two: a cup or a sprig

What's in it

Small enough to print, specific enough to use.

  1. Shot-recipe cards

Each card is one setup: where the light comes from, where the book sits, which prop goes in. Print them, prop one against the window and shoot.

  2. The prop checklist

The handful of things that do most of the work in book photos, most of which you already own. Tick them off as you gather them.

Why it helps

What changes when you start with a recipe.

  1. You stop guessing at the light

Every card tells you where to stand the book in relation to the window, so the cover reads clearly the first time.

  2. Your table stays uncluttered

One book, one or two props. The checklist keeps you from buying things a linen napkin can do.

  3. Your feed starts to look like yours

Repeating a few setups with small changes is how a recognizable style begins.
